Understanding nutrition education in elementary schools
Heading
Thank you so much for your interest in our research!
There is little current research on what barriers teachers face when teaching nutrition to their students. Understanding these barriers, and opportunities, will help researchers and policymakers develop tools and resources to support teachers. We are conducting a voluntary research study to learn more about strategies used by teachers when teaching nutrition in Canada. We are also looking to gain a deeper understanding of teachers’ perceptions, challenges and drivers that they face when teaching nutrition.
What’s involved?
This voluntary research study includes focus group interviews with elementary school teachers. Each focus group will have 5-6 teachers, a moderator and a notetaker. The study which will take place over Zoom and the audio will be recorded. The use of your video camera is encouraged, but optional. We will schedule the focus group at a time convenient with your schedule. As a token of appreciation, we will provide you with a gift card of $50 value.
To qualify for this study, you must:
- Be a certified elementary teacher who teaches Gr 1-8
- Teach the Health and Physical Education Curriculum (Canadian)
The data will help us develop nutrition education tools to support teachers in teaching nutrition.
Please provide us with your information below. We’ll connect with you to discuss your participation in this Voluntary Research Study. This study has been reviewed by the Ontario Tech University Research Ethics Board (REB # 16608) on Feb 28, 2022. This research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
