Understanding what people eat using different diet assessment tools

Heading

Thank you so much for your interest in our research!

Our research team is located in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ontario Tech University. It is led by Dr. JoAnne Arcand, who is a nutritional scientist and Registered Dietitian. You can learn more about our team and research.

We are conducting a voluntary research study to gain a better understanding about the food and nutrients that Canadians are eating, using different ways to track food intake. This is valuable research because it will provide researchers and health care professionals important information on if we are meeting nutrition recommendations. This study is funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

What will you do?
1) Measure and write down all food and drinks you consume over 3 days. We will provide you with a recording booklet and a scale to weigh your food and drinks.

2) Complete two 24-hour urine collections on 2 of those same 3 days you are tracking your intake. We will provide you with the containers. It’s not as difficult to do, as you may think!

3) After finishing the food record and urine collections, you will complete 3 online questionnaires.

To qualify for this study, you must:
1) be >40 years of age, and
2) live somewhere between the GTA and Belleville in Southern Ontario.
3) be free of kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, or preeclampsia
4) have no condition that affects memory
5) not be taking loop diuretics or SGLT2 inhibitors

You will receive in this study as a token of appreciation for your participation.
